(Temporarily) Out with the old and In with the new

I feel like a character in a book. To be more specific, I feel like a hero on his journey!

How come? well, I look at the past few months and before, and I notice that my own story has some key elements from the “Hero’s journey“.

An exercise

The last thing I wrote for the writers group was an exercise I found very interesting, and one that I think might be very beneficial to “beginners” like me. The assignment was to write a conversation with no verbal speech. I took the advice of writing as an observer, rather than “participating” in that conversation, and I’d like to share the result with you here:

Aches and Pains aside, I got a new idea…

This weekend was one of great accomplishments, albeit not on the literary field. Yours truly, not a man known for his love of physical labor, has committed himself to some back-breaking tasks.

Laziness…

I am here to apologize to whoever reads my blog, but mainly to myself, for being a lazy bum in this last week.
This is not to say I sat completely idle, but I have been contemplating a dilemma…

I wrote the story

I wrote here a few days ago about a short story I wrote for a contest, therefore I cannot share it on any electronic platform. I did however need input. Luckily, I have joined a writers group and last night I read some of it out (Well, some of it was read out courtesy of a fellow writer :)).
I won’t tell you what was specifically said. I took all comments seriously, and after reflecting on it, I should have done a better job to begin with. I am not beating myself up, just setting things up for this:

Writing and the reading experience

I had a nice chat yesterday regarding a story I shared with someone. The feedback that I received was both welcome and informative. I appreciated the time dedicated to reading my story and the comments made by my friend. It took me about an hour to realize though, that the input was not trivial…

Distractions or new developments?

Ok, so I feel good about putting up a nice (I think so) short story out there for people to read (Did you notice the nice plug? ;)). But in the last few days I spotted a strange happening.

Once upon a time…

Does this sound familiar? How many stories did we read, that started with this line?

As previously reported, my outline is as complete as can be. I could wait until I have it reviewed, fixed, re-reviewed and fixed again and again before I start writing. To be honest (and why would I start a blog if I wasn’t going to be honest?), I cannot wait!

I might have to re-write every single word later, but I absolutely HAVE to start writing.
